Attending sessions

You may be feeling concerned about the Corona virus outbreak, I’d like to reassure you that my priority is your safety and welfare, both physically and emotionally.

Keeping up to date with latest advice

I am actively monitoring advice provided by the government and the NHS and am using this to determine the safest way for us to work together. I will make you aware as soon as there is any need to make changes to our current arrangements.

What if I have to self isolate?

If you need to self isolate for any reason please let me know as soon as you can. If you are isolating due to illness then we can suspend your sessions until you feel well enough to continue. If you are self isolating as a result of travel to quarantined areas or because you have come into contact with the virus but are not showing symptoms then we can make alternative arrangements to continue our sessions online – we can do the majority of our work together this way although would have to delay any rewind work until we could meet in person

What if guidelines indicate that we should limit our social interaction?

The government has classified mental health services to be among those that should be allowed to continue operating as long as safety protocols are in place. This means that while there is a preference for online or telephone sessions, face-to-face sessions are also possible and sometimes the best solution. Rest assured that The Retreat is COVID-secure and all guidelines are followed rigorously.

What do online appointments involve?

In terms of the actual session content, they are identical to those conducted face to face with one exception – we are unable to make use of the rewind technique due to best practice working guidelines. Logistically, you will need access to a computer or mobile telephone that is audio and video enabled. You will also need access to a stable internet connection. I make use of Zoom online conferencing software – if you are using a mobile phone you may need to install the Zoom app,  which is free to download from the apple or google play stores. If using a computer you can join the session via your browser (I will send a link). I will also recommend that you find a quiet location where you will not be disturbed for the duration of our session and we will agree in advance what to do should we lose connection for any reason. Evidence indicates that online sessions can be just as effective as face to face and perhaps even easier to attend!

What will happen when things go back to normal?

If, after a period of social isolation government guidelines indicate that normal social contact can be resumed I will ask you what you would like to do. You can either return to face to face sessions – and I may recommend this if we need to make use of the rewind technique. Or alternatively if you decide that you would prefer to continue online we can do that (although I may suggest specific sessions be conducted face to face if required).
Whatever happens in the coming weeks and months, please be assured that my aim of working with you remains to achieve as much as possible in the shortest time necessary.
